Design & Build of a Five Bedroom Contemporary Family Home

This complete Design & Build project transformed a disused plot into a bespoke five-bedroom family home. Urban Eco Homes managed the entire process from concept to completion, taking responsibility for the architectural design, planning process, technical design and Building Regulations before managing the complete construction of the property.

By controlling both the design and construction, we were able to coordinate the architectural, structural and technical requirements from the outset, ensuring the design remained practical, buildable and aligned with the client’s vision. The restricted site, located at the end of a narrow access lane, also required careful consideration during the design stages to allow for deliveries, construction access and the installation of new utility services.

The property was constructed using traditional masonry with a contemporary rendered finish, incorporating a substantial structural steel roof frame to create generous open-plan living spaces. Mature trees surrounding the site presented a further engineering challenge, requiring specialist reinforced foundations extending to depths of over three metres in places.

A standout feature is the impressive entrance hall and full-height open void, extending from ground-floor level to a large flat-roof skylight. This brings natural light deep into the centre of the property and creates a dramatic sense of height and space on entering the home.

The completed development demonstrates the benefits of the Urban Eco Homes Design & Build approach: one team overseeing design, planning, Building Regulations, technical coordination, construction and project management. This gives our clients a single point of responsibility throughout the process, allowing us to take their project from an initial idea through to a completed, high-quality home.
