This project combined a technically challenging groundworks package with the con­struc­tion of a complete ICF structural shell for a bespoke self-build home positioned within a steeply sloping natural bank. Urban Eco Homes was appointed to take the project through the difficult groundworks and structural stages, ultimately delivering a weathertight shell ready for the client to take over and complete at their own pace.

The site presented significant challenges, including natural springs, groundwater, difficult ground conditions and substantial changes in level. Working closely with the structural engineers and design team, Urban Eco Homes helped develop practical solutions as the true site conditions became apparent. The works required extensive water management, drainage, sta­bil­i­sa­tion and engineered foun­da­tions, with careful con­sid­er­a­tion given to both the new structure and the long-term stability of the sur­round­ing land.

Following com­ple­tion of the groundworks, Urban Eco Homes con­structed the property using the Izodom ICF system supplied by Econekt. The ICF structure provided a highly insulated, robust and energy-efficient building envelope, while careful coordination of the structural elements, floors, openings and roof allowed us to progress the project from challenging ground conditions through to a complete structural shell.

Once the shell was completed, the property was handed back to the client ready for them to undertake the remaining internal works and finishes. This approach gave the client the benefit of specialist con­trac­tors delivering the most technically demanding stages of the project, while retaining the flex­i­bil­ity to manage and complete the remainder of their self-build themselves.
