This bespoke low-energy home in Swindon is another col­lab­o­ra­tive project between Urban Eco Homes and Econekt, combining Econekt’s specialist Izodom ICF system with Urban’s on-site con­struc­tion expertise.

Econekt is the exclusive UK partner for Izodom and provides ICF systems for low-energy and Passivhaus con­struc­tion.

A key feature of the build is the inte­gra­tion of underfloor heating directly within the structural floor slab, which will be finished as a floated polished concrete floor. This allows the structure, heating system and final archi­tec­tural finish to work together while com­ple­ment­ing the high thermal per­for­mance of the ICF envelope.

The architecture itself has created some significant structural challenges. A highly complex roof and balcony arrangement, extensive openings and substantial structural spans have required a con­sid­er­able amount of bespoke steel engi­neer­ing, all carefully coor­di­nated with the ICF structure.

The project demon­strates the strength of the Econekt and Urban Eco Homes col­lab­o­ra­tion on technically demanding low-energy homes: combining specialist ICF knowledge and supply with the practical con­struc­tion experience required to integrate concrete, steelwork, floors, roofs and archi­tec­tural details into one coor­di­nated build.
